Tap to Pay on iPhone

Helping tradies get paid on the spot by introducing Tap to Pay on iPhone with Apple and Stripe — driving roughly a 12% lift in payments adoption in the first month.

Context

hipages wanted to grow payments adoption and help tradies get paid faster. The assumption was that online invoicing would solve it.

Discovery

Customer discovery told a different story. The real problem wasn't sending a payment link — tradies wanted to collect payment immediately after finishing the job, on site, rather than invoice and chase later.

Delivery

  • Customer discovery and problem framing
  • Product and data validation of the opportunity
  • Apple Tap to Pay and Stripe integration
  • Rapid prototype to de-risk the flow
  • Lean MVP, then launch

What I learned

Post-launch funnel analysis showed new-customer activation was constrained by Stripe onboarding and KYC, not by the in-app experience. Measuring after launch changed where the next round of effort went.

Outcomes

  • Payments adoption up approximately 12% in the first month

Discovery reframed the problem from 'get paid online' to 'get paid on the spot'.
