Minas Kamel · Sydney, Australia
Engineer-turned-product leader with 15+ years across B2B SaaS, FinTech, payments and platforms. I combine product strategy, customer discovery and commercial thinking with the technical depth to work from problem through to implementation.
Career
I started my career as a software engineer and spent close to a decade building software and leading engineering teams before moving into Product.
That background still shapes how I work today. I can move between customer problems, commercial decisions and technical implementation without treating them as separate worlds.
I've since led products across B2B SaaS and FinTech — from building the next generation of GeoOp, to financial products at Invoice2go/BILL, payments and data at hipages, and most recently leading a major platform transformation at Benchmark Estimating.
Today I'm also increasingly using AI-assisted development to prototype and build products myself, shortening the distance between an idea and something customers can actually use.
Impact
24%
Annualised growth following the GeoNext launch
70% → 90%
Customer retention after improving support prioritisation and SLAs
3 min → 30 sec
Job booking time after redesigning scheduling around staff availability
+12%
Payments adoption in the first month after launching Tap to Pay on iPhone
20% → <0.1%
Invoice email spam rate after redesigning delivery with a third-party integration
~10%
Increase in usage and discoverability following the BILL mobile consolidation
Selected product work
Four decisions I'd point to: a replatform reframed around customer value, a payments bet grounded in discovery, a platform consolidation argued with trade-offs, and a workflow redesign that made the product a differentiator.
Benchmark Estimating
Bringing three long-standing desktop products — cost estimating, carbon and analytics — together into a single web and cloud platform, and reshaping an inherited feature-parity roadmap around customer value.
hipages
Helping tradies get paid on the spot by introducing Tap to Pay on iPhone with Apple and Stripe — driving roughly a 12% lift in payments adoption in the first month.
Invoice2go / BILL
Leading a two-month strategic discovery to decide whether three separate mobile apps — AP, AR and expenses — should stay independent or become one product.
GeoOp
Analytics said job creation took three minutes on a simple form. Interviews revealed users were leaving the product to check staff availability — so we redesigned the workflow, not the form.
Things I'm building
AI-assisted development has made it possible for experienced product people with technical backgrounds to move much closer to implementation. I've been using that opportunity to build and prototype working products myself.

A SaaS workforce scheduling product built around making complex rostering easier — designed, specced and built hands-on using modern AI-assisted development workflows.
An AI-assisted automation built around a real accounts-payable problem: invoices arrive by email, and someone has to read, code and route them before anything gets paid.
A working payments experience taking a product requirement all the way to a live implementation on Stripe and Supabase.
How I work
Understand what customers are actually trying to achieve before choosing the solution.
Measure whether behaviour, customer experience or commercial outcomes changed — not how many features shipped.
Good product decisions usually involve competing customer, commercial and technical constraints.
My engineering background lets me work deeply with technical teams — and increasingly build and prototype solutions myself.
